mcfeaze. were approached to create a concept for lighting the River Derwent that flows through Matlock Bath. The concept was to create a lighting design that would create a safe night-time environment for the tens of thousands of tourists that visit the town each year.

Famous for its yearly Matlock Illuminations event, it was imperative the project reflects such event and gives visitors a taster of the illuminations all year round.

It was also important that the project didn’t dominate the natural environment, but instead compliment it. Focusing on only ‘soft lighting’, we managed to create something simple, yet effective
